Mature tree falls on Saanich home

Strong winds uproot large tree on residential lot

Heavy winds blew a large tree down onto a Saanich home Thursday.

A house on McMorran Way had its eavestroughs ripped off and roof damaged after a large tree was uprooted and fell on the home.

An arborist was on scene in a bucket truck around 5 p.m. using a chainsaw to remove the tree, as the resident watched from a second-floor window.

As of 4 p.m., 34,000 residents in Victoria are without power due to the storm, according to BC Hydro.

Around 80 sailings have been cancelled across 12 BC Ferries routes as Thursday’s storm raged along the B.C. coast.
