May 5 WEEKENDER – Yard sale etiquette

With spring in the air, it's time for yard sales. Here are some tips for people in Grand Forks that yard sale.

Here is some yard sale etiquette.

  1. Have it on Friday or Saturday, although Saturday is better because more people are off work.
  2. Yard salers are out and about by 8 a.m. They will not usually come back after 10 a.m.
  3. Make your signs large enough to read from a car driving down a road.
  4. If your items are dirty, broken or incomplete, they will not sell.
  5. Put books so you can read the titles, not piled in a box, this goes for movies also.
  6. Have your items on a table or bench, not on the ground or on a tarp.
  7. Have enough room to get around the tables and have your items at yard sale prices – nobody cares what you originally paid for them.
  8. Clothing should not be hung up, not heaped in piles or in boxes.
  9. Advertise a week in advance, not two or more.
  10. Pick up signs after the sale; don’t leave them to the wind and weather.
