Janice Brown calls it a privilege to serve her constituents in Spallumcheen as mayor.
Brown kicked off her second term as mayor Monday with five incumbent councillors and one newcomer serving the township for the next four years.
“I am privileged to have such a good committed council,” said Brown during her address.
“I thank everyone for putting their names in to run for this new four-year term. Your commitment and contribution is very much appreciated.”
All were sworn in to their roles by Corey Paiement, the chief administrative officer for the township.
Christine LeMaire joins council, filling the seat vacated by Rachael Ganson, who did not seek re-election Nov. 15.
“I’d like to welcome Christine to council,” said Brown. “I’m sure you will jump right in and learn from us all.”
Brown, elected as mayor in 2011, believes the latest campaign was successful because her group put people ahead of politics.
“We believed that our citizens were engaged when going door-to-door and I was grateful for their honest,y” she said.
“People are the roots of a community and, thankfully, those roots are already in the ground allowing us to continue on all the projects we have started, along with new challenges we will face.”
Brown said her council will create “the highest, grandest vision.”
“We will set ambitious goals, set clear expectations and be courageous with tough decisions,” she vowed.
“Then we will let every step move us in the right direction.”
