A wild crash in Walnut Grove will not likely lead to arrests because Langley RCMP can’t determine who was at the wheel.
Just after 5 p.m., outside the Sportsplex ice arena complex, a Mazda SUV apparently rear-ended another vehicle, said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.
The Mazda then reversed rapidly and tried to make a complete turn.
Instead, the car bounced over the sidewalk and crashed into a pillar in the parking lot at the Sportsplex.
The three occupants of the car spilled out and ran away, said Largy.
Responding firefighters, police, and BC Ambulance paramedics had to search the area for the missing and possibly injured occupants.
Two of them were found in the nearby Colossus movie theatre, while another eventually returned on his own, Largy said. One of the young people was bleeding from the forehead, and may not have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Police have spoken to the owner, who seems to be the parent of one of the occupants. However, without a way to determine which of the three was the driver, police can’t say if they will lay any charges.
