Could Big Macs and Quarter Pounders be coming to GF?At the Feb. 24 Grand Forks City Council meeting, Mayor Brian Taylor announced to those in attendance that McDonald’s Restaurants are considering opening a store in Grand Forks.“They are applying for development permit which allows them to go forward with the project,” said Taylor to the Gazette. “The City has given them certain conditions to meet in order to comply with our bylaws in terms of hook ups and systems. Should they respond positively to all those requirements there’s really no reason why we’d turn them down.”Taylor said McDonald’s had to pay for the development permit application. “So I take it as being more serious than before,” he said.The property in question is in the West end near Kal Tire.A spokesperson from McDonalds told the Gazette by email that the restaurant firm has no plans for expanding into Grand Forks.John Gibson, manager of communications for Western Canada for McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada, said the company usually does not release information for plans of restaurant construction from a competitive business standpoint, “however, after inquiring with our development team, I can confirm that we do not have plans at this time to build in Grand Forks.”
