The City of Penticton says McLaren Arena remains closed as they repair the gas meter on the side of the building, damaged when a snowplow struck it Wednesday.
“We expect it could take several days to build and install a new meter,” said facilities supervisor Chris Schmidt.
All holiday public skating activities including public skate, drop-in hockey and stick ‘n puck are cancelled until further notice. Residents are advised to watch the city’s website at www.penticton.ca or follow the city’s Facebook and Twitter accounts for updates.
The Penticton Fire Department was called to McLaren Park Arena Wednesday morning after a gas meter was hit.
A snowplow hit the gas meter on the side of the building in the parking lot around 10:20 a.m.
Firefighters stretched a hose to the meter while other members shut off the main gas. FortisBC also quickly responded to the scene. Both crews were at McLaren Park Arena for an hour until it was repaired.
