Three more Spallumcheen residents have voiced opposition to a would-be plan to allow a road network out of McLeod Subdivision and its desire to provide a safe and viable alternative route to Highway 97A.
Letters were received by council from residents expressing extreme dissatisfaction to a plan by three township property owners who have submitted an application to the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) for approval to subdivide their three bordering properties on Whitaker Road which are in the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR) into a 14-lot subdivision.
The owners say the application is to allow a road network out of the subdivision that provides a viable alternative route to Highway 97A, and includes a proposed public road through the subdivision that would link Lockhart Crescent to Reservoir Road.
That road would enable another alternate route in and out of the subdivision to the highway via Powerhouse Road.
Spallumcheen council unanimously supported the application to the ALC, but state no official application for such a plan from the property owners has come before council.
“An actual application for the subdivision has not come to council,” said Coun. Christine Fraser. “We can refer the letters and make sure they get heard at a public hearing when an application comes to council, if it ever comes to council.”
Four people have now voiced their opposition to the proposal, which was not supported by the township’s planning department.
