A 30-bed group home for adults with severe mental illness re-opened in Esquimalt Wednesday after undergoing a $5-million renovation and expansion.
McCauley Lodge (1037 Lyall St.) offers residents daily meals, medication assistance and ongoing monitoring as well as tailored supports like laundry, grooming recreational activities and personal hygiene.
“Our organization believes in making a real difference in the lives of individuals living with mental illness,” said Darrion Campbell, board president of the Capital Mental Health Association.
MacCaulay Lodge staff work with Island Health to create a healthy and vibrant environment that helps residents gain greater independence in their mental health recovery, Campbell said.
The renovation increased resident space from 22 to 30, and a new commercial kitchen and dining space has been installed.
Funding was provided by Island Health, the Capital Regional Hospital District, United Way of Greater Victoria and the federal and provincial governments.
The Capital Mental Health Association, which runs MacCaulay Lodge, provides services to more than 800 adults with mental health challenges across Greater Victoria.
