Cash seized during a 2006 drug raid has been sitting in a police evidence room.
Now, the B.C. Civil Forfeiture Office wants that $810 in the government’s coffers along with more cash and a car seized during drug investigations in Campbell River. The $810 is connected with a Aug. 3, 2006, drug bust that occurred on the Island Highway and Shoppers Row. Other items up for forfeiture include a Samsung cell phone and $365 seized during an Aug. 24, 2012, drug investigation that occurred in the 2000 block Island Hwy.
Finally, the third recent application for seizure involved a Feb. 18 drug trafficking investigation that took place on Shoreline Drive. The civil forfeiture director is applying to seize a 1998 Mercedes ML320, $335 in cash and a Samsung cell phone. Notices of the impending forfeitures appeared in recent editions of North Island MidWeek. Owners of the property have 60 days to dispute the claims. In the last year, cars, thousands in cash and property all seized during local drug investigations have been forfeited under the act.
