Downtown Vernon merchants will remain open for business during major construction.
The City of Vernon anticipates starting revitalization March 25 on 30th Avenue from 33rd to 35th streets.
“The businesses will be open during construction and the Downtown Vernon Association will have a campaign to get the word out,” said Mark Dowhaniuk, the city’s infrastructure engineer.
Pedestrian traffic will be allowed at all times.
Initially, utility work will be done in the centre of the road and the sidewalks will continue to be open.
Once the utility upgrades are done, the sidewalks will be closed and pedestrians can use the centre of 30th Avenue. There will be connections to the businesses.
A major change, though, will be in traffic patterns.
Motorists will be provided with details on how to detour around the two blocks.
The goal is to have revitalization completed by the end of June.
