Finance Minister Michael de Jong was acclaimed in his local riding last week, and will once again bear the BC Liberal banner in Abbotsford West in the upcoming 2017 provincial election.

The News had previously reported De Jong, and fellow Abbotsford MLAs Simon Gibson and Darryl Plecas, would stand for re-election when voters head to the polls on May 9, 2017.

De Jong was officially nominated as the Liberals’ candidate on June 28. He will be running for his sixth term as MLA.

De Jong currently serves as the Minister of Finance and Government House Leader. He is also the chair of the Treasury Board and the Legislative Review Committee.

“I am honoured to have had the privilege of representing the constituents of Abbotsford West for the last 22 years,” he said in a press release. “Together, we have accomplished great things for the community and for the province, but there is more to be done.”
