Mini-van crashes into power line near Dumont Tire

There are currently 2,062 residences without power, according to BC Hydro

A lone-driver of a mini-van crashed into a power line on Otter Point Road near Dumont Tire around 10:30 a.m. this morning.

According to witnesses, the male driver was speeding up the hill, where he crashed into the power line, snapping it in half.

There were sparks and a big blue flash, as the transformer landed on the roof of the car.

According to Const. Martindale, the driver was not injured and will remain inside the vehicle until BC Hydro arrives to turn off the power for safety reasons.

The BC Hydro website currently states 2,062 residences are without power, south of Denfield Road, and east of West Coast Road. Power is estimated to return at 2 p.m.

Fire fighters from the Sooke Fire and Rescue service are currently waiting on the scene to excavate the car.
