Minister visits North Island

Minister Peter Fassbender was visiting the North Island this week

Minister of C o m m u n i t y , Sport, Cultural Development and Minister Responsible for Translink Peter Fassbender is on the North Island this week.

“With responsibility for local government, the Minister visits B.C.’s local communities throughout the province regularly.

These visits provide opportunities to meet with the local representatives of municipalities and regional districts and give him the chance to meet and listen to citizens face to face,” said a spokesperson from the Minister’s office via email.

The Port McNeill & District Chamber of Commerce and the Port McNeill Rotary Club will be hosting a joint luncheon with Fassbender today (Aug. 31). He will also meet with Port McNeill council and the Regional District of Mount Waddington board of directors.

Fassbender will be meeting with District of Port Hardy council on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. at the Municipal Hall. He will then be going to the Kwa’lilas Hotel and visit the Museum.

He will also meet with local governments in Sayward and Port Alice, and tour the U’Mista Cultural Centre in Alert Bay.

Fassbender previously served as Minister of Education and currently serves on the Cabinet Committee on Secure Economy, the Priorities and Planning Committee and the Cabinet Working Group on Climate Leadership.

Fassbender was elected MLA for Surrey-Fleetwood on May 14, 2013.

In his business career, he worked in radio and television as well as a number of other communications fields.

Prior to his election to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Fassbender served as a Councillor for the City of Langley for three years before being elected as Mayor in the November 2005, 2008 and 2011 Civic elections.
