The Ministry of Environment insist Spallumcheen residents are not at risk from an incident at a dairy farm.

On Feb. 16 at about 4:30 p.m., a spill occurred from one of two manure effluent lagoons at Grace-Mar Farm on Salmon River Road.

“On Feb. 17, Ministry of Environment staff attended the site and started an investigation,” states the ministry in an e-mail.

“GraceMar has commenced clean-up of the spill.”

A conservation officer was also on the site Saturday to investigate.

“With respect to potential impact on the local water supply, the effluent from Thursday’s spill is not in an area to impact the Hullcar aquifer,” states the ministry.

“That said, the Interior Health Authority’s water quality advisory to all residents who draw water from Hullcar Aquifer is still in effect. As per the water quality advisory, nitrate levels throughout the aquifer may vary. Therefore it is recommended that independent well users test their water (this applies to wells and surface water sources).”

The ministry states that regular monthly testing will continue.
