The Nelson Police Department, in a news release, has identified a woman found dead near Cottonwood Creek as Heather Gunderson, who was reported missing in early December.
“As a result of a recent tip from the public, an officer of the Nelson Police Department was able to locate objects belonging to Heather Gunderson near the Cottonwood Creek Canyon,” the news release states.
On Feb. 20, the police, along with Nelson Search and Rescue, Nelson Fire Rescue Service, the Ministry of Transportation and the BC Ambulance Service, searched the ravine below the spillway in Cottonwood Creek.
The spillway is located between Highway 3A and Rosemont, upstream from Cottonwood Creek Falls.
As a result of this search a woman’s body was recovered and then identified as Gunderson.
“At this point in time there is no evidence to indicate that Heather Gunderson died as a result of a crime,” the news release states. “The Nelson Police Department will continue to assist the BC Coroners Service and gather evidence.”
