Mission is losing its fire chief.
Chief Larry Watkinson has decided to end his stay in Mission to take over the position of Fire Chief with the City of Penticton. Originally from the Okanagan, Watkinson served with Mission Fire/Rescue for nearly eight years and led the department through significant changes
Dale Unrau will be the new chief in Mission.
Unrau comes to Mission with a wealth of experience, serving most recently as Deputy Fire Chief with the City of Abbotsford, and has held a number of chief officer roles since 2003.
He played an active role in the development of Abbotsford’s Fire Rescue Service Master Plans and served as a team lead for the city’s strategic planning team.
He believes a community fire service revolves around working towards a safer community by providing services that are sustainable and reflect best industry practices and thereby earn the trust and respect of the community.
“I am humbled and excited by being entrusted with the Fire Chief’s position with the District of Mission. I look forward to working with a great group of people at Mission Fire/Rescue and with the District. My goal is to provide the same great level of customer service established by Chief Watkinson,” said Unrau.
“We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Chief Unrau’s experience available which will allow for a seamless transition,” said Mission Mayor Randy Hawes.
