Two car thieves are in custody after Mission Mounties used a spike belt to stop a stolen car in Hatzic.

A keen-eyed Mission RCMP Constable located an abandoned vehicle in the area of Norrish Ave. and Manson Street, shortly before 7 a.m. this morning (May 16).

While he was at that location dealing with the vehicle, he observed a green Acura Integra drive by. A check of the license plate showed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Abbotsford the previous afternoon.

Several other RCMP officers converged on the area and set up spike belts.

Two spike belts were successfully deployed, which flattened all four tires on the vehicle.  The driver attempted to escape on the flats,  but came to a stop a short distance away in the 35400 block of Highway 7.

The two occupants then attempted to flee on foot, but were quickly arrested by police.

Two adult female suspects are in custody and will be facing a number of criminal charges relating to this incident.
