The Mission RCMP is encouraging the community to educate themselves on the new shooting restrictions which came into effect on April 6.

According to a police press release, due to the poor choices of a select group of firearm users, more rigid regulations were required to protect the community as well as the environment.

The Mission RCMP will continue to patrol the forest service roads surrounding the Stave Lake area.

“We want to be very clear in our directive as this has been a long awaited change – for the Easter long weekend police will be conducting patrols with the focus of educating individuals on the new regulations; but, following the long weekend police will be engaging in full enforcement,” said Insp. Ted De Jager.
