The North Okanagan’s representatives in Victoria are being kept busy.
Eric Foster, Vernon-Monashee MLA, has been named to the provincial cabinet’s environment and land use committee, while Shuswap MLA Greg Kyllo is on the treasury board and the committees for a secure tomorrow, a strong economy and core review.
“There’s lots of discussions at the committee level and lots of differences of opinion,” said Foster, adding that MLAs play a role in setting policy.
“This is where changes are made or a minister finds out support from caucus (for a proposal) doesn’t exist.”
Foster welcomes his reappointment to the environment and land use committee.
“All issues that have to do with land come through there,” he said.
While he is a new MLA, Kyllo is ready for three committees.
“Obviously the premier has some confidence in me,” he said.
Kyllo is most interested in treasury board.
“We have an opportunity for all of the ministries’ expenditures they want to make,” he said. “It’s really a great training opportunity for me.”
