Mom drives away a winner

Sick Civic winner, and her son, are stoked with prize from Bannister Honda

With a life-sized ‘Hot Wheels’ parked right outside his door, six-year-old Damion Webster can hardly wipe the grin from his face.

And his mom, Melissa (the one who actually gets to drive the sweet ride) is equally thrilled.

The 26-year-old was one of five lucky finalists who picked the winning key to win herself a 2003 Honda Civic Coupe during Vernon Winter Carnival Family Day.

But this isn’t just any car.

It’s one Sick Civic.

An electric green and flat black paintjob, paired with matching wheels, new exhaust, graphics and thumping stereo make it the sickest ride around town.

Its slick appearance and colour reminds Melissa of the unforgettable lime-green car from Fast and the Furious.

“I thought that was the coolest car in the world,” said Melissa, whose 16-year-old dream of owning a car like that has now come true.

She first read about the My Sick Civic contest in The Morning Star, which partnered with Bannister Honda and SUN FM to give away the car valued at $25,000.

“Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to be a finalist let alone win the car.”

It’s perfect timing for the Vernon mom, who is upgrading her licence in April, therefore her boyfriend won’t have to drive her around anymore.

“I get my N in April so I was going to be looking for a car anyway,” said Melissa, who works at the Okanagan Landing Tim Horton’s.

Bannister Honda is happy to see a deserving person win the car and thanks all the sponsors who helped drive the event forward.

“We’re very happy to be giving back to the youth of the Vernon area,” said Pat Loehndorf, Bannister Honda general manager, adding that there will likely be a second My Sick Civic contest.
