Monday meeting aims to arouse interest in voting in May election

One Cowichan is urging Valley residents to get ready for the BC Election on May 9 by getting more engaged with the voting process so they’ll actually get out and vote.

“It’s up to us as the voting public to send a strong candidate to represent us in Victoria as well as hold them to account after they are elected,” One Cowichan’s Rosalie Sawrie said.

The first step is gathering the community, and they’ve planned a non-partisan meeting for Monday, Jan. 30 starting at 6 p.m. at the Siem Lelum Gym at 5574 River Rd. in Duncan. Individuals, and folks from organizations and businesses are invited to share their experiences when talking about politics.

That will help identify what barriers may exist to voting and explore getting over them.

The evening is going to be family friendly, with activities for the kids while parents/guardians participate in the discussions.

More information can be found at www.onecowichan.ca or by contacting Rosalie at 250-701-3134.
