About 50 people of all ages braved minus-eight temperatures on New Year’s Day to start their year with an invigorating polar bear dip into Wood Lake.

It was minus 8 degrees with a north wind and the ice was forming just past where they ran in the water.

One of the young lads was from Australia and said it was plus 40 in Sydney.

Hot soup and sandwiches with hot chocolate and coffee was served at the Legion afterward.
