A cow moose was recently killed and left to waste in the Southside.
According to Burns Lake conservation officer Jell Palm, a local resident observed two men killing the moose near Tattlerose Road on Dec. 17, 2017. The local resident then returned to the scene after two days had passed and noticed that the moose remained ungutted and only its hindquarters had been taken.
“Over 300 hundred pounds of meat was left to waste as the front shoulders and the back loins were left behind,” described Palm.
The Conservation Officer Service is seeking the public’s assistance in locating these individuals. Any information on who may be responsible can be forwarded to the report all poachers and polluters hotline at 1-877-952-7277.
“Under the Wildlife Act, there is a legal requirement to retrieve wildlife once it has been killed, not to mention an ethical requirement,” said Palm. “Something as simple as a licence plate or a rumour as to who got the moose will break this case wide open.”
