Last Friday at 9:30 p.m., New Hazelton RCMP responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 16 two kilometers northwest of Moricetown.
Police arrived to find a southeastbound tractor trailer had collided with a moose, which sent the moose into the path of a northwestbound Dodge pickup truck.
The moose struck the Dodge truck resulting in the pickup landing on its roof in the ditch, trapping the two occupants.
The driver of the Dodge, a 32-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The female passenger was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that have been described as serious.
The highway was closed as a result of the crash and investigation.
It re-opened to single lane traffic early the next morning and fully re-opened around 10 a.m., according to DriveBC.
Road and weather conditions at the time of the crash were described as partly cloudy and -11 degrees Celsius.
The road surface was dry.
The BC Coroners Service and police continue to investigate but do not believe alcohol or speed to have played a role in this crash.
The RCMP said the names of those involved are not being released.
