The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) has busted a “chop shop” and recovered more than $100,000 in vehicles, parts and tools.
The investigation began Saturday, March 19, when police received a report that a 2007 Ford F-550 truck – valued at $40,000 – and $50,000 in tools had been stolen overnight from a barn in the 33000 block of Townshipline Road.
Two days later, police executed a search warrant on a large rural property in the 4000 block of Tolmie Road, where a “chop shop” – a location where stolen vehicles are dismantled for the purpose of selling the parts – was located.
Sgt. Judy Bird said the stolen truck chassis and tools were recovered, and at least seven dismantled vehicles were located.
The investigation continues with the APD’s crime reduction unit, the Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team and the ICBC special investigation unit, and charges are anticipated.
