After initially announcing their intent to resign, four of the five members on the board of directors for the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport Society will not.
All five had said they would step down as of July 31, in a move board chairman Murray Day characterized as “pushing them a little bit to get on with this.”
But this week, Day said he and three others will now stay on until Dec. 31.
Day also said that Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, partners in the society, are close to resolving their issues.
Pitt Meadows had asked Maple Ridge to cede its control last year.
“Our board made the decision they would linger on,” Day said.
The other members who will remain on the board are Wendy Boyes, Greg Andrews, Dave Walsh.
Airport manager Elvio Pecchia is taking the place of Dr. Anne McAfee, who is leaving the board.
Day said changes to the societies act have complicated the transition to a new board, as all the municipal bylaws must be made compliant.
He said the transition to a new board should take place in the early fall.
“In the meantime, it was important the airport maintained a functioning board,” said Day. “The board is happy to provide the time for the members to work. We’re happy things are moving ahead.”
The cities of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows recently began a review of the governance of YPK, as well as the development of a long-term strategic plan for the facility.
The present board has got work underway on $2.5 million worth of airport improvements that include extending the runway to 5,000 feet and adding new runway lights.
