Motel fire remains under investigation

At about midnight Saturday, firefighters were called to the Green Valley Motel at 25th Avenue and 32nd Street.

A fire at a vacant Vernon motel is under investigation by authorities.

At about midnight Saturday, firefighters were called to the Green Valley Motel at 25th Avenue and 32nd Street.

“The caretakers of the motel noticed smoke and then flame coming out of a room on the back of the building, third floor,” said Jack Blair, deputy fire chief.

“He went upstairs and went into the room and the fire appeared to be in the bathroom area. He used an extinguisher to help knock the fire down.”

Once the firefighters were on scene, they continued to knock the blaze down and make sure it hadn’t spread.

“The exact cause is unknown at this time but the fire is being investigated along with RCMP,” said Blair.

The Green Valley Motel has been vacant since last September and the property is for sale.
