A MOTORCYCLE has been impounded and its driver is facing charges after it was clocked traveling 225 kilometres an hour just south of Terrace June 21.

The speed limit on that stretch of Hwy 37 South toward Kitimat is 100 kilometres an hour.

“This is the fastest speed that I hae seen in my 12 years in the RCMP,” said Constable David Desa of the West Pacific Region Traffic Services Unit who successfully stopped the driver of the Suzuki GSX-R 1000/

The motorcycle was impounded for seven days and the male driver is facing charges of excessive speed under Section 148 of the Motor Vehicle Act.

“With the speed the driver was traveling, he would not have been able to react to anything that happened in front of him and could easily have been involved in a serious collision,” said Desa.

Police remind motorists in the area that motorcycle riding season is in full swing and to be aware of the other users of the road.
