A middle-aged Victoria man was injured after his motorcycle collided into the back of a van on the 7100-block of West Coast Road in front of John Muir elementary around 1 p.m. this afternoon.
A pair of motorcyclists were heading eastbound on West Coast Road, travelling approximately 40 km through a school zone, when one of them collided into the back of a cube van turning left into John Muir elementary school.
According to Cpl. Barb Cottingham, the cube van failed to yield to the oncoming motorcyclists.
The motorcyclist attempted to avoid a collision, but ended up crashing into the rear of the van and was ejected from his bike.
The extent of his injuries are unknown, but his riding partner, who was not injured or hit, said the man complained of injuries around his collarbone and hip region.
The injured motorcyclist was taken to Victoria General via ambulance with undetermined injuries.
Cottingham said it was an instance of distracted driving.
“It’s quite common for drivers not to be paying attention and they need to be cognizant that there are motorcyclists out there and cyclists,” she said.
The driver of the cube van will be charged with failing to yield.
