Motorcyclist killed in Kelowna collision

Indications point to speed as factor as motorcycle runs head-on into SUV on Springfield Road near Highway 33

A 31-year-old Kelowna man died from injuries sustained after the motorcycle he was riding collided with an SUV early Monday evening.

Police say the motorcyclist was headed north on Springfield Road towards Highway 33 at about 7 p.m. when he appeared to lose control of his Honda 929 motorcyle on a curve in the road and crossed the centre line, crashing into the oncoming SUV.

The force of the collision split the motorcycle in two. The driver of the SUV, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was shaken up by the accident but not seriously injured.

The investigation into the accident is continuing, but police at the scene were indicating that speed was a factor on the part of the motorcyclist.

Police haven’t yet released the name of the person killed, while the motorcycle was uninsured.
