SURREY — A 56-year-old Surrey man died Sunday evening when his motorcycle crashed with an SUV at the intersection of 128th Street and 88th Avenue.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened at 7:25 p.m. The Yamaha motorcycle was travelling east on 88th and the Lexus RX330 was westbound on 88th, making a left turn onto 128th.
Bystanders and paramedics performed CPR but the motorcyclist died inside the ambulance on scene.
Police are asking witnesses to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
“The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with police,” Surrey RCMP Staff Sergeant Murray Hedderson said.
On Friday, at about 10:30 p.m., a black BMW driven by a 22-year-old Surrey man jumped a curb at 152nd Street and 101st Avenue and hit a 52-year-old man standing at a bus shelter.
Corporal Scotty Schumann said the man was “grazed” and his injuries were “very minor.”
The BMW continued down a sidewalk, knocking down a lamp post and then went over a concrete median. The car’s front left side was destroyed.
The driver was taken to hospital. Schumann said investigators are looking into speed as a contributing factor in this crash. “Impairment is not a consideration,” he said. tom.zytaruk@thenownewspaper.com
