The Mount Midgely wildfire northwest of Creston is now 10 per cent contained, bcwildfire.ca reported this afternoon. It is also smaller then previously estimated.

While this fire was previously estimated at 600 hectares, better intelligence from field has downgraded the size to 400 hectares,” said the website entry.

The fire, which started Friday, was fought today with 28 firefighters, two pieces of heavy equipment andĀ four helicopters (three bucketing and one providing support). A 20-person unit crew will be on-site tomorrow.

A couple spot fires did occur outside of the fire perimeter earlier today,” said the website. “These fires were immediately responded to by ground personnel. The fire is currently a smouldering ground fire, with a couple pockets of open flame.”

A provincial Type 1 fire origin and cause investigator is on-site; the cause is unknown.
