A 47-year-old Port Alberni man is facing drug charges after police found him allegedly in possession of three ounces of methamphetamine at a B.C. Ferry Terminal.
Mark Posin appeared in Nanaimo Provincial Court on Tuesday charged with one count of possession for the purposes of trafficking and two counts of breaching of undertaking.
“He’ll likely be remanded into custody,” Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said.
Posin is of no fixed address but hails from Alberni, O’Brien added.
Posin arrived at Departure Bay from Tsawwassen on Monday Jan. 30 at 10:20 p.m. when police arrested him. Investigators seized three ounces of methamphetamine, some packaging material and a digital scale.
Police became aware of Posin’s trip as a result of an investigation but they knew of him before that.
“This is the third time we’ve popped him for this so he’s been on our radar,” O’Brien said.
Posin was arrested at the Duke Point Ferry terminal in 2009 with 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine. He was arrested again at Duke Point in 2010 with two ounces of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to time served on the first charge and acquitted on the second.
The amount of drugs Posin was arrested with lead police to believe that he isn’t just a small player. “We believe that he is heavily involved in the drug culture on the Island,” O’Brien said.
