Movie magic to come back to Agassiz on the Easter long weekend

'Sweet Home Georgia' will be filmed April 3 and Pioneer Ave will be closed for most of the day

  • Mar. 25, 2021 12:00 a.m.

UPDATE: Filming will be happening on Saturday, April 3 instead of Friday, April 2.

Agassiz’s Pioneer Avenue will once again be showcasing its small town charm for film crews on Saturday, April 3.

The TV movie Sweet Home Georgia, produced by Carolina Productions Inc., will be setting up to film scenes on the 7000 block of Pioneer Avenue on April 3.

The road will be closed between approximately 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. that day, between Highway 9 and Shoppers Drug Mart.

The film will be directed by Canadian actor Peter Benson, and his crew has already been filming in other places around the Lower Mainland. The team was in New Westminster on March 15, doing interior scenes at the Artusi Restaurant.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Agassiz hasn’t been a stranger to production teams in the last year.

The drama Solitary was filmed in Agassiz last October, with a dramatic getaway scene centred around the Kent Outdoors Store. Hallmark Channel’s My Best Friend’s Bouquet also came to the area for filming in the fall of 2020.
