Three Conservative MPs will attend a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2 p.m., to address concerns about how Canada’s veterans are being supported by the federal government.
The meeting is a followup to a previous meeting held last August when 14 recommendations agreed to by the standing committee on veterans’ affairs were discussed with Legion members.
At the Jan. 20 gathering will be local MPs Ron Cannan and Dan Albas along with Laurie Hawn, who represents the Edmonton Centre riding in Alberta.
Hawn is slated to give a powerpoint presentation, updating the status of the veterans’ committee recommendation, and outline some of the challenges, opportunities and changing demographics and requirements of Canada’s veterans.
The Veterans Charter is an agreement that was introduced by the Liberal government in 2005, which in 2006 had the unanimous consent of all MPs to implement the charter.
All veterans and their families are invited to this upcoming meeting. For more information call the Legion branch at 250-762-4117.
