Mt. Boucherie jazz group wins in Idaho

The Bjorn Kriel Group was a winner at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.

A group of musicians from Mt. Boucherie Secondary travelled stateside and hit all the right notes at the 2017 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.

The Bjorn Kriel Group, directed by Craig Thomson, won won the High School Instrumental Combo A Division at the three-day event, hosted by the University of Idaho.

As a special recognition, Bjorn Kriel Group performed on stage at the Saturday evening concert immediately prior to the headliner and four-time Grammy winner, Esperanza Spalding.

The festival features three days of student competitions, workshops and clinics. More than 115 K-12 schools are in attendance from around the region, including nearly 400 soloists, combos and ensembles from Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and B.C.
