Crews from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure are surveying a bank that gave way Saturday evening creating a minor mud slide which temporarily blocked Eagle Bay Road and cut power to some residents.
Cliff Doherty, coordinator of the Shuswap Emergency Program, said the slide, which took place near the dinner hour Saturday in the 5900 block of Eagle Bay Road, covered roughly 100 feet of the roadway with mud approximately one foot deep.
A number of trees were taken out by the slide, which also brought down power to the immediate area affecting approximately 200 homes.
Highway maintenance crews were immediately dispatched and had the roadway cleared by midnight. BC Hydro crews also had power restored later that same night.
There were no nearby structures and no people were involved.
“It is a common thing for this time of year,” said Doherty. “Anywhere man has made things more vertical, nature can work to bring things back to a more 45 degree angle. Overall, it was a small event.”
Ministry of Highways staff went to the site Monday to assess whether any further remedial work would be needed.
