Black Press files.

In the first two weeks of April, Vanderhoof RCMP received 147 files which included 16 prisoners.

Motor vehicle accident

On April 15, Vanderhoof RCMP were notified of a single vehicle crash where a youth suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital. The investigation is currently active and ongoing, and at this time, police believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash. A 34-year-old man was arrested and released on an Appearance Notice for a future court date of June 14, 2021. The victim and driver of the vehicle are known to each other. There is no further information available at this time.

On April 2, local police responded to a two-vehicle accident at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Vanderview Avenue. One vehicle rolled over as a result of the accident and two unnamed occupants were transported to St. John Hospital with serious injuries, said detachment commander Staff Sgt. Laurie Clarkson. The accident is still under investigation.

Break-and-enter

On April 10, Vanderhoof RCMP were notified of a break-and-enter to a commercial storage locker in which approximately $2000 worth small vintage items were stolen. The case is under investigation.

On April 11, local police responded to a second break-and-enter at another commercial storage locker site where small items worth $2000 were stolen, along with two water pumps.

“Police would like to encourage residents to continue to report unusual or suspicious activity. Even when you can’t quite put your finger on it but something seems off, you are encouraged to contact your local police department at the time of the incident. Oftentimes those “spidey senses” are right,” Clarkson said.

Vanderhoof Airport

On April 12, a Vanderhoof pilot got a bit of a surprise when they attempted to land at the Vanderhoof Airport. While on final approach, the pilot saw a truck parked on the runway and conducted a missed approach. The truck departed the runway but returned to the tarmac a second time. The truck eventually left the airport and the matter was later reported to the police.
