“A very odd situation.”
That’s how Kelowna RCMP Const. Kris Clark described an incident involving an intoxicated, naked driver who was pulled over by police near the intersection of Bernard Avenue and Gordon Drive Wednesday night.
Kelowna Mounties were dealing with a dial-a-dope drug dealer near the Bernard Avenue 711 at 10 p.m. when they observed a vehicle driving erratically.
“They initiated a vehicle stop and found the driver was naked,” said Clark.
The 25-year-old man was intoxicated and blew over twice the legal limit. RCMP members also found small amounts of marijuana and what appeared to be ecstasy.
A female passenger was also inside of the vehicle; however, “did not really seem to want to be there,” according to Clark.
“By both accounts she was initially there willfully, but as things escalated in weirdness, she no longer wanted to be there.”
Clark said several charges are being recommended including driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance (X2) and failure to comply with an order.
He said indecent exposure is being considered, but will only be recommended if it meets the RCMP’s standard of proof.
“Certainly if it was during the day where children or somebody could be disturbed by the sight, then it could be more justified.”
Clark said this is the first scenario he has come across where an individual was pulled over while driving naked.
