Municipal tax deadline looms July 4

West Shore residents have a number of options for payment, but penalties apply for late submissions

If you don’t pay your property taxes by July 4, it could cost you significantly.

Property taxes throughout the Capital Region are due next Monday, with a penalty of up to 10 per cent assessed to those who miss the deadline. Unclaimed homeowner grants will be subject to penalties as well.

The options for payment for most municipalities include cash, cheque, debit cards or through your bank, often as part of your mortgage payment.

It’s best to check your municipality’s website to be clear which rules apply to ensure your property taxes are paid on time.

Residents should also consider that job action by Canada Post will not be considered an excuse for late payment, according to information on the District of Highlands website.
