Investigators were on the scene Friday morning of a fatal stabbing at the Petro-Canada gas station at Townline and Maclure roads in Abbotsford.

A murder investigation is underway in Abbotsford after a 34-year-old man was stabbed on Thursday night.

Police were called at 10 p.m. after the victim was transported to hospital in critical condition. He died just after midnight.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now heading the investigation.

The Petro-Canada gas station at the corner of Townline and Maclure roads was behind crime tape this morning as investigators combed the scene for evidence, including what appears to be blood drops.

Police have not said whether they believe the incident is related to the ongoing “Townline Hill conflict” in which two groups of young men in west Abbotsford have been involved in a dispute.

The conflict has involved incidents of mischief, assault, vandalism and arson.

Last October, 18-year-old Harwin Baringh was fatally shot while in his vehicle on Sparrow Drive in west Abbotsford, but police have also not confirmed whether his murder is related to the dispute.

However, court documents filed in December to seize two vehicles alleged to have ties to Baringh’s murder indicated that his death was linked to an “ongoing gang conflict.”

Anyone with information about last night’s stabbing is asked to call the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

IHIT has indicated that it will provide an update this afternoon.
