The Nakusp and District Museum has one of the most valuable and diverse collections in small town Canada, but because of its reliance on volunteers, it doesn’t have a properly trained and educated employee and as a result, the Nakusp and District Museum Society (NDMS) feels it can’t reach its full potential.
The society requests the village and the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) work together to explore ways for the museum to meet a minimum base funding that would ensure the museum has one employee during its seasonal operation from May to September.
If this happens, the NDMS feels instead of just focusing on being able to stay open, it could shift its focus to more promotional aspects concerning the museum such as creating events that would draw more tourists and locals to the area.
Fire hydrant report
In accordance with a new fire hydrant maintenance policy adopted by the village council back in April, one third of the fire hydrants in town were completely torn down and inspected. Some of the hydrants had either partial maintenance done, such as having certain parts replaced, or were replaced.
The other two thirds of the fire hydrants in the village have been inspected and next year the village will move on to the ones that need repair.
As per the new policy, fire hydrants in the village will have to be inspected every three years.
