Musical ride helps Armstrong celebrate

A long-time Canadian tradition will help Armstrong celebrate its 100th birthday in 2013.

The RCMP Musical Ride will return to the IPE Fairgrounds in July.

The ride performed in front of a capacity crowd at the fairgrounds in 2011.

“We’re very excited to have the musical ride return to help the community celebrate its 100th birthday,” said Terri Wong of Armstrong’s Event Options B.C., which is organizing centennial events throughout the year.

In fact, the deadline for events to happen in 2013 in conjunction with Armstrong’s 100th is Monday.

Anybody wishing to host a special birthday event is asked to contact the Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce.

Wong also announced plans for a big outdoor concert to be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, at the fairgrounds, though she declined to say who would be performing.

“We will have one artist that appeals to the younger crowd and one that appeals to the 40-plus crowd,” said Wong. “One of the performers has been named as one of Canada’s 10 emerging artists.”

A formal announcement on the concert and performers will be released at a later date.

A slogan for the 100th celebrations is expected to be finalized this week with “Home for 100 Years” and “Century Celebration” at the top of the suggestion list.
