Abbotsford Police impounded the cars of two new drivers over the weekend.

One 17-year-old male was clocked doing 152 km/h on a stretch of the Fraser Highway where the posted speed is 80 km/h, on Sunday night at 10 p.m.

His family’s car, a Nissan sedan, was impounded for seven days, and it is likely the teen’s licence will be suspended.

In another incident, a young man was smoking his tires and “peeled out” at a stoplight, said Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald.

“He just failed to check his rearview mirror,” said MacDonald, noting that a police car was right behind the new driver.

Such maneuvers are dangerous, and illegal, because the car can fishtail out of control.

“You have a difficult time controlling your car when you’re on the gas and the brake at the same time,” he said.

Again, the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
