Nanaimo Fire Rescue investigating three suspicious fires

NANAIMO – Investigator says three fires were likely intentionally set in Nanaimo Monday morning.

Nanaimo firefighters responded to three suspicious fires early Monday morning near Bowen Road.

According to Nanaimo Fire Rescue, the first incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m., at the TD Bank on Dufferin Crescent.

Alan Millbank, acting captain for Nanaimo Fire Rescue, said the fire was tiny and set intentionally.

The second and third fires were set around 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., both at a housing complex that is currently under construction at 1701 Crescent View Dr., according to Millbank.

He said in both those incidents the suspect or suspects set a fire inside the building.

“One was a building under construction and they broke in and set a fire in the bathroom and then in the third one … they set a fire in the unbuilt living area,” Millbank said.

Millbank said all three incidents are related and currently being investigated by the Nanaimo Fire Rescue and the Nanaimo RCMP.
