A Nanaimo RCMP officer will appear in Duncan court in August to face a charge of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
The charge against Const. David Buchanan was sworn Thursday and stems from an on-duty incident in February 2016 that involved the police pursuit of a person driving a motorized scooter, who was allegedly injured when the chase ended in Duncan.
The Independent Investigation Office of B.C. investigated the incident and submitted its report to Crown counsel.
In a press release Friday, the B.C. Prosecution Service announced it had approved a charge of one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Buchanan is scheduled to make his first court appearance Aug. 1.
Buchanan is one of the officers who was presented with a citation and medal of valour in November for his role in apprehending Kevin Addison in the Western Forest Products mill shooting in 2014.
