Following the “one person’s trash is another’s treasure” philosophy, the City of Nanaimo’s Reuse Rendezvous event is set for Aug. 14-15.
The city-wide swap meet offers residents the opportunity to keep old household items from the landfill, according to a press release. On the days of the event, people can place the items such as unwanted toys, sporting goods, furniture and bikes at their curb, allowing other people to pick them up and reuse them.
Residents are asked to mark the items with a ‘free’ tag and not place them in areas that block sidewalks or bike lanes, said the press release, while participants are asked to drive slowly, watch for children, park carefully, obey all traffic signs and speed limits, and respect public and private property.
“Our annual [Reuse Rendezvous] is a great opportunity to declutter, or reclutter, your homes and have fun seeking out treasures across our community,” said Nanaimo Mayor Leonard Krog in the press release. “Not to mention you are contributing to greener Nanaimo by extending the life of household items and diverting waste from the landfill.”
Residents are also asked to be remove any items that are left over by Aug. 16.
