The hunt is on for an interim city manager.
Nanaimo city council has decided to hire an interim city manager, as top bureaucrat Ted Swabey gets ready to exit Nov. 13.
The decision was announced afternoon Tuesday.
“Council had a productive and thorough meeting this morning which concluded with a clear, open and fair process for filling both the interim and the permanent city manager positions,” Mayor Bill McKay said in a press release.
Swabey’s resignation was announced last Friday along with that of Ian Howat, general manager of corporate services. Swabey, who has been city manager since 2013, quit to become the new administrative officer for the City of Maple Ridge.
The City of Nanaimo will collect resumes from candidates within and outside of the organization over the next week for the interim position, anticipated to last up to six months, according to the job description.
An executive hiring committee has been struck to oversee the recruiting process and includes all members of council. The city will search for a permanent city manager candidate after the interim position is filled.
