Nanaimo Senior Services Network showcased senior services available in the Harbour City at the second annual Scooter Rodeo on Saturday.
The event took place at Beban Park and according to Teresa Ostman and Mel Azcarraga, Scooter Rodeo committee chairpeople, it was also an opportunity for seniors and others to have some fun. The main draw was the Scooter Rodeo track, an obstacle course navigated with a scooter.

Nanaimo Senior Services Network offers many programs, said Ostman and Azcarraga.
“There are so many senior services, like Seniors Connect, Life Line where they provide free check-in service if you’re a shut-in to make sure that something hasn’t happened to you, so you check in every day,” said Ostman.
“There’s the Kidney Foundation here … not many seniors are aware there are a lot of services available and some of them are free services, government-funded services so this activity is to bring the information to the community,” said Azcarraga.
Murray Dodds was in attendance to enjoy the fun and said the course presented some challenges.
“The second slalom is very tricky, said Dodds. “You have to slow right down and your using your full turns on it, so it’s a very tricky course. The first one is fun. You can go through it fairly quickly.”
