NDP house leader John Horgan says BC families are paying the price for Premier Christy Clark’s decision to cancel the fall sitting of the legislature.

Horgan, who will be the guest speaker at this year’s annual NDP fall dinner Oct. 6 in Courtenay, says there are many pressing issues the government should be addressing.

“This is a government that has no plan,” said New Democrat house leader John Horgan. “Cancelling the fall session is simply an excuse to avoid accountability and not answer the questions that British Columbians are asking.”

“We should be in the legislature getting to work on key issues facing B.C. families.”

Horgan, the MLA for Juan De Fuca and NDP critic for energy, will also talk about issues such as the Enbridge pipeline, the proposed underground coalmine in Comox Valley, and his party’s efforts to provide British Columbians with affordable electricity rates.

Comox Valley NDP candidate Kassandra Dycke said she is looking forward to Horgan’s speech.

“John always speaks with passion,” she said. “He has an entertaining way of delivering a powerful message.”

The Oct. 6 fall dinner takes place at the Florence Filberg Centre, 411 Anderton, in Courtenay. Doors open at 5 p.m., and dinner starts at 6 p.m. Horgan will speak after the dinner.

The $50 tickets come with a tax receipt. Tickets are available at Blue Heron books in Comox, Laughing Oyster books in Courtenay, or by calling 250-334-3434.

You can also purchase tickets at the NDP pre-election campaign office, located at 491 Fourth St. in Courtenay. It is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every weekday.
